Job Description:

Under the general direction of collaborating physicians, the Physician Assistant (CTS) utilizes advanced clinical and analytical skills to provide direct care and management of surgical patients in the acute care or inpatient setting for pre- or post-surgical patients. The Physician Assistant delivers patient care and medical services to individuals and families utilizing standards of care to assess health status, diagnose medical conditions, develop medical plan of care, implement treatments, and evaluate patient responses. The Physician Assistant demonstrates strong leadership, is an excellent communicator, and is effectively able to prioritize a large number of patients in various stages of care.

Job Duties:

  • Assesses and evaluates patients, analyzes, and interprets data, formulates problem lists and establishes treatment plans for resolution of clinical problems.
  • Obtains medical history and performs general/routine examinations under indirect supervision of physician and appropriately requests consults to other specialties when indicated.  
  • Assists in the OR under direct supervision of the physician and performs office procedures as needed.
  • Provides medical and emergency interventions appropriate to the patient’s needs; prescribes and monitors medications appropriate to the diagnosis; orders and monitors the appropriateness of emergency interventions.
  • Refers complex and high priority cases to collaborating physician with regards to complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems, and re-evaluation of chronic conditions. 
  • Facilitates evaluation of records by physicians, peers, and quality standards according to protocols; receives and implements constructive directives.
  • Develops with the patient, caregivers and patient care team, a mutually acceptable cost-aware plan of care that maximizes health potential.
  • Formulates a treatment plan which includes ordering diagnostic tests, selecting appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, identifying educational needs of the patient and family, developing a patient education plan, and formulating a discharge/follow-up plan of care.
  • Documents accurately all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with regulatory standards and requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Licensed by the State of Missouri Physician Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and database management.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge-Building/Sharing, Coaching/Empowering, Health System Vision & Management.
