JOB SUMMARY: Provides patient care under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner or other non-physician provider.
 
YOUR MISSION:
The Surgical Scrub Tech assists the physician with operative procedures in the OR and office setting, anticipating physician needs both in preparing for procedures and during procedure.   Will assist with rooming patients while in clinic setting, preparing patients for exams, return patient phone calls, assist with any scheduling of testing or referrals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants, maintains sterile environment and gathers necessary surgical supplies and equipment
  • Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimens with surgeon in the office setting.
  • Ensure effective patient communication, return patient calls in a timely manner, document patient care accurately and timely, perform EMR tasks correctly and timely, and process patient referrals timely and follows up to ensure the specialist report or test result is received
  • Follow all regulatory and patient safety clinical standards and ensure sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures
  • Transport all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas and assist with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets
  • Works and communicates effectively with all providers and promotes teamwork and provides great customer service in person and on the telephone
  • Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated
  • Demonstrate professionalism by articulating and demonstrating professional behavior, accepting responsibility and accountability for actions, adhering to policies and procedures, demonstrating leadership and supporting Meritas initiatives

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BCLS required
  • Graduate of accredited school of Surgical Technology, Licensed Practical Nurse or  Registered Nursing Program with a current license to practice in Missouri
  • Basic office skills
  • Knowledge of Cerner EMR is a plus
