Job Description:

Anesthesia Technicians work under the guidance of a CRNA and Anesthesiologist in the operating room. They support the anesthesia providers in the acquisition, organization, preparation, application and maintenance of supplies and equipment required for the administration of anesthesia. They will provide support and assistance in anesthesia specific clinical procedures. They are responsible for the inspection of all anesthetizing locations.

Job Duties:

  • Maintains sufficient inventory (PAR levels) in the OR suites. Monitors supplies during the day and replenishes as needed. Reports low PARS in the anesthesia workrooms to the OR and Anesthesia Support Technicians.

  • Proficient in the use of all anesthesia equipment. Inspects, troubleshoots and calibrates all anesthesia equipment. Identifies and reports any malfunctioning equipment. Works with Biomed on malfunctioning and defective equipment.

  • Provides assistance with anesthesia specific clinical procedures. Provides support with all types of anesthesia including general, local, epidural, spinal, regional blocks, and moderate sedation. Anticipates anesthesia provider needs. Responds quickly to provider requests. Supports the application of anesthetic principles related to critical event management. Assists with safe, monitored transfer of patients to other units in the hospital.

  • Cleans and disinfects anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment and carts on turnover. Cleans and disinfects inside carts and machines on a regular basis. Organizes and labels equipment and supplies. Disposes of supplies and equipment as necessary.

  • Performs expedient, prioritized turnover of OR suites with a sense of urgency and sets up the anesthesia environment with the appropriate equipment and supplies for the kind of case and acuity of the patient. Prepares and delivers anesthesia equipment and supplies to satellite locations.

  • Consults with vendors on supplies and equipment. Coordinates trials for supplies and equipment. Looks for effective alternatives for purchases. Uses hospital resources responsibly.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  •  High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred

  • Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) strongly preferred

  • Two years’ experience as an Anesthesia Technician in a level I or II facility

  • Current BLS through the American Heart Association is required

  • Basic knowledge of anesthesia, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and clinical monitoring
