Job Description:

The Regional Anesthesia and Peripheral Nerve Block Advanced Practice Provider in collaboration with the anesthesiologists, provides comprehensive pain management to surgical patients. In cooperation with the Nurse Block Team, Pre-Surgery clinic, and the surgeons, the APP will coordinate a continuum of care to patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting who will benefit from regional anesthesia and peripheral nerve blocks to achieve optimal comfort outcomes.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates the logistics of the Regional Anesthesia and Peripheral Nerve Block Program.
  • Reviews the anesthesia schedule for potential patients.
  • Communicates with the patient’s surgeon to facilitate what block the patient would benefit from.
  • Collaborates with the surgeon’s office, Scheduling, Pre-Surgery Clinic, Specialty Navigator, Pre-op, Block Nurse Team, CRNA’s, PACU, and the floor providing a continuum of care.
  • Displays and maintains excellent interdisciplinary communication and relationships with the Department of Anesthesiology to successfully ensure safe care of the perioperative patient population.
  • Manages the organization and storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Extends and optimizes utilization of the anesthesiologists by rounding on and managing post-operative patients with continuous regional or neuraxial blocks.
  • Provides patient and staff education regarding Regional Anesthesia and Peripheral Nerve Blocks.
  • Assists Block Nurse Team with ordering and documenting in the Electronic Medical Record System.
  • Globally understands ultrasound function and storage of images.
  • Demonstrates productivity and initiative by implementing and standardizing Anesthesia protocols and hospital policies pertaining to Regional Anesthesia or Peripheral Nerve Blocks.
  • Participates in data collection and evaluation of quality improvement anesthesia projects.
  • Evaluates billing statistics for Regional Anesthesia and Peripheral Nerve Blocks.
  • Assists with facilitating anesthesia department participation in NKCH/Meritas strategic initiatives including ensuring all accreditations are obtained and maintained.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing and maintain board/association certification
  • Licensed by the State of Missouri as a Registered Nurse to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • 2 years’ experience as APP in surgical specialty, strongly preferred
  • Current ACLS and BLS required.
  • High level of autonomy, ability to make independent decisions, thorough understanding of anesthesia specific patient assessment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional patient-centered care mentality.
