What are the typical hours on the job?

The hours of operation for the Pediatrics practice are Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm. Your primary schedule will be during those hours, with periodic need to work outside your schedule to serve our patients.

What does a Lactation Consultant do?

As a Lactation Consultant, you will specialize in the clinical management of breastfeeding and lactation, advocate for breastfeeding as a global health imperative, and promote environments that support breastfeeding. You will also assist and support to the clinical administratively and clinically through supervisory planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling activities.

What does a typical day on the job look like?

  • Provides education and support to our breastfeeding and pumping parents. Plans patient care to reflect current evidence-based practice of breastfeeding. Intervenes as indicated by the mother, or child’s status; evaluates care and patient needs; educates parent and family unit. Organizes patient consultations and breastfeeding group meetings so quality care is provided timely and acts as a resource to parents.
  • Monitors the daily activities of the clinical team to ensure accurate and efficient completion of all daily tasks while providing exceptional patient care.  Participates in talent life cycle management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orientation, mentoring, development, engagement, retention, performance management and time keeping.
  • Demonstrates productivity by competently assisting providers and clinical staff to maximize patient volumes. Assesses, plans, performs evaluations, assists with procedures, administers medication, and counsels patients. Follows all regulatory and patient safety clinical standards.   Serves as back up to clinical staff when needed.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills (verbal, written and computerized) with the parent, family, and the health care team.  Returns patient calls in a timely manner. Completes consultations and documentation in a timely manner. Provides care coordination services for pediatric patient population as directed by providers. 

What are the requirements for the job?

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Current RN (Registered Nurse) license to practice in the state of Missouri.
  • Minimum of 2 years as RN with 1 year breastfeeding counseling experience, supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association.
  • IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant)
  • Critical thinking skills to identify high risk situations and prioritize care.
  • Basic office skills: patient centered mindset, excellent time management and organization skills; ability to multitask and work in fast paced environment.
